Player Feature: Sophie Shirley

Sophie is one of the youngest players on the Calgary Inferno, though she has demonstrated skills well beyond her years. Even early in the season, she has a team-leading seven points in six games and is ranked among the six top goal scorers in the league. She was born in 1999, and shares a birthday with teammate Kennedy Brown. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native was drafted by the Inferno in the third round, 19th overall. She made the exception to be registered for the draft at under 20 years of age. Before the draft, Shirley attended the University of Wisconsin and started her NCAA career with the Wisconsin Badgers. Shirley has played twice on Team Canada’s U-18 Team. During the 2017 U-18 World Championships, she tallied two goals and four assists in five games.
