Calgary, Alta – Dec. 10, 2018 – The final round of players have been announced for the 2019 Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) All-Star game and nine members of the Calgary Inferno have made the cut – the most among any team. Of the nine players, there are five forwards, three defenders, and one goaltender.
Those selected include defense Kacey Bellamy, Halli Kryzaniak, and Brigette Lacquette, forwards Brianna Decker, Zoe Hickel,Brianne Jenner, Rebecca Johnston, and Blayre Turnbull and goaltender Alex Risby who will all play in the Game taking place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Sunday, January 20.
All players have impressive resumes. Rigsby, Bellamy and Decker all have gold medals from their Olympic appearance with Team USA earlier this year. Lacquette, Jenner, Johnston and Turnbull were teammates on Canada’s silver medal podium finish in Korea.
Alex Rigsby is currently playing in her first CWHL season. She is 8-1-0-1 with one shutout and a save-percentage of 0.935, second among all goalies in the league.
Kacey Bellamy currently has eight points in 14 games and is playing in Canada for the first time. She was named an alternate captain for Team USA at the Olympics earlier this year, to add on to her already two Olympic silver medals, seven World Championship gold medals, one World Championship silver medal, and two Clarkson Cups, both with the Boston Blades.
Halli Krzyzaniak was the Inferno’s first draft selection after the pre-signing round at the 2018 CWHL draft. She’s tied for eighth in scoring among defenders in the league. She had the most goals by a defender at the World Championship in 2016 at just 21 years of age. She most recently won a silver medal with Canada at the 4 Nations Cup this November.
Brigette Lacquette currently leads all Inferno defenders with 11 points in 14 games. At the Olympic games earlier this year, she made the first appearance of a First Nations athlete for Canada’s Women’s Hockey team.
Brianna Decker, recently named an alternate captain of the Inferno, is playing her first year in Canada where she currently has 15 points in 14 games. She was named an alternate captain for Team USA earlier this year at the Olympics adding on to her Olympic silver medal, five World Championship gold medals, World Championship silver medal, and Clarkson Cup.
Zoe Hickel, an alternate captain of the Inferno, is also playing her first year in Canada. She’s tied for second in the league in assists with 11. She tied for first in the league last season with 26 assists as a rookie with the Kunlun Red Star.
Brianne Jenner, an alternate captain of the Inferno, currently has 15 points in 14 games. She was named an alternate captain for Canada earlier this year at the Olympics where she added to her World Championship gold medal, and four World Championship silver medals.
Rebecca Johnston, the captain of the 2018-19 Inferno, recently hit 100 CWHL points in just 79 games in a four-point game against the Toronto Furies in November. She leads all Inferno skaters with 20 points and is tied for first in the league with nine goals. Johnston also has two Olympic gold medals, one World Championship gold medal, and seven World Championship silver medals.
Blayre Turnbull, an alternate captain of the Inferno, currently has six goals and 12 points in 12 games. She’s currently on pace to beat her career-best of 18 points in 22 games in 2016-17. She has two World Championship silver medals.
