Clarkson Cup MVP Delayne Brian stopped all 21 shots directed her way for a shutout in her season debut. Eleven of fifteen skaters had points and at the end of sixty minutes the Inferno thrashed Boston 8-0.
“It was a solid team win” boasted Inferno head coach Scott Reid. “We played well and Delayne made some timely saves.”
Calgary outshot the Blades 62-21 including 27-8 in the final frame. The Inferno were short nine regulars but you wouldn’t have guessed it.
Retired forward Jenna Cunningham dusted off the skates and had a 3 point night with a goal and a pair of assists. Jessica Wong added to the active roster with the injury to Akane Hosoyamada had a pair of assists in her return to the Inferno. Rhianna Kurio also added an assist as well.
All three skaters called up to fill out the roster chipped in and contributed, but it was Inferno regulars Brittany Esposito with a pair of early goals in the second period that set the tone.
Esposito would add an assist for a 3 point night. Jill Saulnier also had a pair of goals, while Inferno rookies Iya Gavrilova and Katelyn Gosling both got their first CWHL goals.
Aina Takeuchi picked up her first goal of the season to round out the scoring.
