League sponsor, ADT dropped the puck for the Inferno’s first game back on home ice in two weeks. The Inferno dominated in their game against the Boston Blades winning 5-2 and outshooting them 41-16.
The goals scored by the Inferno were Louise Warren, Sophie Shirley, Brittany Esposito, Hayleigh Cudmore and Dakota Woodworth.
Boston’s two goals were scored by Courtney Turner.
The Inferno were first on the board just one minute and 20 seconds in to the game, scored by Louise Warren and assisted by Iya Gavrilova and Kelly Murray.
Sophie Shirley scored the second goal of the game, and now leads the Inferno in points with nine on the season, assisted by Dakota Woodworth.
Brittany Esposito capitalized on a powerplay with one minute left in the first period giving the Inferno a 3-0 lead. Since Esposito’s return to play she has averaged one goal a game.
“It’s frustrating being in the stands, not being able to do anything so you learn a lot from that and getting that goal really means a lot” said Esposito.
Boston responded 17 seconds later with Courtney Turner, the first overall pick of the CWHL entry draft, scoring her first ever CWHL goal and was assisted by Meghan Grieves and Kaitlin Spurling.
Shots were 16-3 in favour of the Inferno at the end of the period.
Hayleigh Cudmore opened the scoring just a minute into the second period, assisted by Esposito, giving the Inferno a three-goal lead. The rest of the period remained scoreless.
Boston opened the scoring in the third period with Turner getting her second goal of the game, assisted by Jordan Hampton and Casey Stathopoulos.
Inferno’s Woodworth buried the puck in the back of net just 17 seconds later making it a 5-2 lead for the Inferno.
The Inferno face off against Boston again Sunday at 10:30 am at WinSport.
