Calgary, Alta – Dec. 19, 2018 – Goaltender Alex Rigsby, defense Kacey Bellamy and forwards Brianna Decker and Zoe Hickel were invited to Detroit, Michigan for the annual U.S. Women’s National Team Winter Festival.
The team will train this week and play an exhibition game against the U.S. Men’s U-17 National Team.
“We usually have this camp after Christmas, but it’s nice to have it before so we get some time at home,” commented Bellamy in her first year with the Inferno. “I’ve been going to the camp since 2006/2007 so it’s been incredible. Moving to Calgary has also been an incredible experience, I’ve loved the first half so far.”
The Inferno are also loving the contributions from these players . Bellamy is second in the league for defensemen with 12 points, Decker and Hickel sit in the top twelve points standings with 17 and 15 points respectively, and Rigsby is in the top three goaltenders, with a 1.59 GAA and .935 save percentage.
During camp, the U.S. Women’s Team will prepare for the upcoming year of international competition kicking off in February with a series against Canada. The series starts Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. ET in London, Ont., at Budweiser Gardens, the home of the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. The teams will play again Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. ET at Scotiabank Arena, home of the Toronto Maple Leafs, before shifting south of the border for the final game Sunday, Feb. 17 at 12 p.m. ET at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich., home of the Detroit Red Wings. https://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/team-canada/women/national/2018-19/series-vs-usa/stats/schedule
The world’s top eight teams will then meet in April at the World Cup in Espoo, Finland from April 4-14.
