Calgary Inferno travel to Montreal for weekend clash between league’s best

CALGARY, ALTA. – Jan. 31, 2019 – After clinching a playoff spot with a 5-2 victory over the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays on Tuesday, January 22, Inferno stars Brianna Decker and Rebecca Johnston got the opportunity to take part in the NHL’s All-Star festivities, where they shone in the passing and puck handling competitions.

“This past weekend was an incredible experience and I was happy to share it with three other great ambassadors of the game,” remarked passing drill leader Brianna Decker. “I am so thankful that the NHL allowed us to be a part of their big weekend to allow us to grow our sport.”

This weekend, it’s back to work. They’ll match up against Les Canadiennes Montreal in a clash that will see the Canadian Women’s Hockey League’s two top teams go head to head: a series that could help determine just who will finish the season atop the standings.

The two teams have already faced each other four times this season, with Calgary taking three of the contests with two wins at home against Les Canadiennes and one on the road. The Inferno go into the series in first place, with 35 points in 21 games, while Les Canadiennes are right behind them, with 33 points in 21 games.

“I cannot wait for this upcoming weekend and I’m looking forward to getting back with the squad again. I’m so grateful for the players on our team,” added Decker.

A win would not only cement the season series victory for the Inferno, but would put them one step closer towards clinching home ice in the postseason.

The first game will be on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m. MT in Montreal. The game will be streamed by  the CWHL, and can be viewed at Game 2 will take place Sunday, Feb. 3, at 11:30 a.m. MT.
