Calgary, Alta (June 28) – The Calgary Inferno bolstered their roster this week as the club announced the signing of forward Zoe Hickel. This acquisition will reunite Hickel with her former college coach Shannon Miller, who recently took over as Head Coach of the Inferno.
“The speed and talent of the CWHL is second to none and I am excited to be a part of it for a second season with the Calgary Inferno. I am thrilled to accept the offer to play for such a hard-fighting, professional organization, and can’t wait to be reunited with one of the greatest coaches in the world, Shannon Miller”, stated Hickel.
The 25-year-old Anchorage, Alaska native just wrapped up a successful rookie campaign with the Kunlun Red Star last season, registering 12 goals and 38 points. The talented forward led the league in assists (26) and averaged well over a point per game, playing alongside 2018 CWHL MVP Kelli Stack. Her efforts were instrumental in helping the Red Star make an appearance in a Clarkson Cup final in their inaugural season.
Hickel brings an impressive resume with her to Calgary with success at various stages in her career. The former University of Minnesota Duluth product completed four years with the Bulldogs and served as captain of the team for her final two seasons. On the international level, Hickel has been a part of the United States Women’s National Team, winning back-to-back World Championships (’15 & ’16) as well as a 4 Nations Cup in 2015.
With the addition of Hickel, along with a handful of returnees from the Canadian Olympic team, the Inferno are primed to make a strong run at the Clarkson Cup this year with their last championship coming in 2016.
