Calgary Inferno look to extend nine game win streak against Markham

CALGARY, ALTA – Nov. 29, 2018 – The Calgary Inferno are set to host the Markham Thunder this weekend when the teams will face off for the first time this season. A pair of wins last weekend against Les Canadiennes earned the Inferno first place in the CWHL, advancing their win streak to nine straight games.

“We’re starting to click as a team and our units are playing well together and everyone has a team-first attitude and it’s pushing us forward,” commented Inferno forward Blayre Turnbull.  “We’re taking it game by game and weekend by weekend and we’re expecting to play with the same intensity as last weekend.”

The defending Clarkson Cup Champion Markham Thunder are in fourth place with six wins and five losses, two of which were in overtime, having played eleven games this season. The Thunder are looking for a big win this weekend as they come off a split against the Toronto Furies, winning Saturday’s game 5-2. On Sunday Markham lost in overtime to Toronto.

Both teams have players in the league’s top point standings. Calgary Inferno’s Rebecca Johnston has 14 points and Markham Thunder’s Laura Stacey has 11 points, averaging one point a game.

Note: The locations for this weekend’s games are at Max Bell Arena 2 on Saturday, December 1 at 5:00 p.m. MST and at the Cochrane Arena on Sunday, December 2, puck drop at 1:00 p.m. MST.  The Inferno’s December 1 game will also be broadcast live on Sportsnet 960 The Fan.
